Fillings

Fillings

Dental fillings are commonly used to repair teeth that have cavities, cracks, or fractures caused by decay, trauma, or wear over time. The procedure involves removing the decayed or damaged part of the tooth and filling the cavity with a suitable material to prevent further deterioration and restore the tooth’s shape and function.

  • Composite Fillings: Made of a tooth-colored resin material that blends with natural teeth, composite fillings are ideal for front teeth or visible areas due to their aesthetic appeal. They bond well to the tooth structure, providing strength and durability.

  • Amalgam Fillings: These are made from a blend of metals, including silver, mercury, tin, and copper. Amalgam fillings are known for their strength and longevity, making them suitable for filling cavities in back teeth where chewing forces are greater.

  • Ceramic Fillings: Also known as porcelain fillings, ceramic materials are highly durable and resistant to staining. They closely mimic natural tooth color and are suitable for patients allergic to metal.

  • Glass Ionomer Fillings: These fillings release fluoride, which can help protect against further decay. They are often used for children’s teeth or as a temporary filling.
